Choosing Which Wolf to Feed: A Journey to Embrace Your True Self
Have you ever experienced a moment of profound clarity that changed the way you see yourself and the world around you? Recently, during a breakthrough clarity call with a client, I had one of those moments. I was guided to explore the concepts of the true self and the shadow self, and it led me to share a timeless Cherokee tale that holds deep wisdom.
Storytelling has always been one of my passions, bringing me immense joy. I fondly recall the days when my younger cousins would eagerly gather around me, pleading for my self-created ghost stories. Those moments are some of my most cherished memories.
But let's dive into the heart of the matter—the Cherokee tale. It's a story of a grandfather passing down life's wisdom to his grandson, a tale that resonates with the struggle within us all.
“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”
He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson pondered for a moment and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
Whether this tale is a familiar friend or a new acquaintance, it carries a powerful message—one that invites us to reflect on the duality within ourselves.
In that recent client session, my client had the opportunity to clearly see both sides that resided within her. She received the support to face her dark side fully, allowing her to embrace the light and love that lay at the core of her being.
At our essence, we are beings of love, light, joy, and peace. However, the traumas of our past and the decisions we made during difficult times often cause us to forget or become disconnected from our true selves.
The journey to unveiling our true selves involves confronting the darkness within us. It means embracing all the negative emotions that come with it until we surrender to the love, peace, and joy that we truly are.
When we resist, run from, or fight our dark side, we only intensify our torment. We find ourselves stuck in a cycle of overthinking, victim mentality, and negative thoughts that dominate our inner landscape.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to embark on the inner journey of releasing all the negativity within you. Through this process, you activate your radiant light, unlocking the gifts and magic that it holds.
Presently, I am passionately serving clients worldwide, guiding them as they peel away the layers that block their inner light. My mission is to empower them to confidently serve and make the difference they were created to make in this world.
Now, let's return to the Cherokee tale and the question it poses:
Which wolf are you choosing to feed?
Are you nurturing the wolf that craves anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, and negativity? This wolf embodies your inner critic—the voice that tells you that you're a failure and that no one will love or understand you. It represents your depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem.
Or are you ready to cut off the food supply to this negative wolf and instead nourish the good wolf? By doing so, you choose to invest your energy and resources in thoughts, feelings, and emotions that serve you in healthy ways. You feed the wolf of joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.
As the good wolf grows stronger, you become better equipped to confront your inner critic, ego mind, and life's challenges with resilience and grace.
I invite you to share in the comments which wolf you are choosing to feed and why. Your journey of self-discovery and transformation is a powerful one, and your insights can inspire others on their paths as well.
Until next time, I send you love and light on your journey of embracing your true self,
Mariam
