Calling Back Your Energy & The Power of Thought
I was recently listening to a YouTube video by Aaron Doughty and it was mind-blowing. It reinforced everything I already knew, but hearing someone say it out loud made a huge impact.
He explained that whenever we give someone our attention—when we think of them, worry about them, or focus on them—we are actually sending them our energy. There’s an invisible cord between us, and our energy flows to them. The more we do this, the more we deplete our own vital energy, which can leave us feeling drained and exhausted.
This is why it's so important to call back your energy. Every time you catch yourself thinking of someone unnecessarily, remind yourself to bring your energy back.
One of the first energy practices I learned when I discovered I was an empath was calling back my energy. I believe I first heard about it from my coach, Carrie Cardoza, one of my earliest teachers. She taught me to simply say my name—
"Mariam, come back."
Repeating this throughout the day helps call your energy back into your body, grounding you in the present moment.
But I realized that even though I was calling my energy back, it would leave me again very quickly. That’s when I discovered the power of grounding—especially my unique technique called Tree Grounding.
Tree Grounding Exercise
I didn’t learn this technique from anyone—it developed naturally through my own experiences. I always felt drawn to trees, and over time, I realized how powerful they are for energy work.
Whenever I saw a tree, I felt the urge to hug it or lean my back against its trunk. I began visualizing all the negative energy in my body, especially in my back, being absorbed by the tree and released into the earth. This practice became my way of clearing energetic heaviness, including the effects of jealousy, negative energy, or the evil eye, which I believe often accumulates in the back.
Grounding is essential for energy stability. Walking barefoot on wet grass, sand, or natural ground is an excellent way to connect with the earth. But the Tree Grounding technique took my grounding to a whole new level.
Creating an Energetic Boundary
Once you are grounded and in your space, you become magnetic and strong. You hold your energy rather than leaking it out to others. This is what creates a frame of separation—the energetic boundary between you and others.
If you’re an intuitive empath like me, you probably feel when someone is thinking about you because their energy enters your field. When this happens, push it out:
Visualize your space as a sacred bubble that only you control.
Use your palms to energetically push unwanted energy away.
Say “No” with conviction. The word “No” is extremely powerful in energetic work. Imagine someone trying to enter your home without permission—you wouldn’t allow it. Likewise, don’t allow them to enter your energy field.
When you stand firm and say, “No, I did not give you permission to enter my space. Please leave.”—it works. The energy has no choice but to leave.
The Hidden Power of Our Thoughts
Most people underestimate the power of their thoughts, not realizing that they have real-world consequences. Just as we can send energy with our focus, our thoughts can impact others, for better or worse.
When we hold negative thoughts about someone, we create an energetic weight around them. Even sending thoughts of fear or worry can energetically burden the person.
For example, if you constantly think, “She’s so sick, I feel so bad for her,” or you keep telling others, “She’s never going to recover,” you could unknowingly reinforce their condition energetically, keeping them stuck.
A powerful story that illustrates this: A woman suffering from chronic illness had a sudden breakthrough when her family stopped talking about her as if she were sick. They shifted their focus to her healing instead. She later shared how, for years, she felt like she was drowning in people’s concern, but when they started seeing her as healed, her condition rapidly improved.
The Opposite Is Also True: The Power of Positive Thoughts
Just as negative thoughts can harm, positive thoughts can uplift, heal, and create transformation. Research on the placebo effect has shown that our beliefs and expectations alone can trigger real healing in the body. Studies in psychoneuroimmunology demonstrate how positive emotions and thoughts can strengthen the immune system, reduce stress hormones, and even accelerate recovery from illness.
Dr. Masaru Emoto’s work on water crystallization also highlights the power of thoughts and intentions. In his experiments, water exposed to positive words and intentions formed beautifully symmetrical ice crystals, while water exposed to negative words created distorted, chaotic patterns. Given that our bodies are made up of about 60% water, imagine the impact our thoughts have on our own well-being and the people around us!
Studies on heart-brain coherence from the HeartMath Institute reveal that when we cultivate feelings of love, gratitude, and compassion, our heart’s electromagnetic field becomes more harmonious. This energy can be detected several feet away and influences those around us.
This means that when you send loving, encouraging, or healing thoughts to someone, they may feel uplifted without even knowing why. You become a source of light in their life, shifting their energy and supporting their healing.
Final Thoughts
I encourage you to practice calling back your energy throughout the day. Every time you notice your thoughts drifting toward someone, remind yourself:
🌀 "I am giving that person my energy. Let me bring it back."
But don’t stop there. Stay grounded. When you are rooted in your own energy, you become unshakable. Push out any energy that doesn't belong to you—whether it's other people’s thoughts, fears, or expectations. Don’t let anyone rent space in your energetic field for free.
Your thoughts are powerful. They can heal or harm, uplift or drain, free or imprison. So choose wisely. Be intentional. Focus on what you want to create, not what you fear.
✨ Protect your space. Call back your power. Stay grounded. And most importantly—direct your thoughts toward light, love, and possibility. ✨
